The Sky Is Falling No Its Not!
The Sky Is Falling ⦠No Its Not! The sky is falling! Alcoa announces they are cutting their global workforce by 13%, or 13,500 employees, by the end of 2009. No its not! FBI plans large hiring blitz of agents, experts. I think Obama will create a ton of jobs. That could be good. It could also create a ton of bureaucracy who knows. Heres an interesting thought. Today I was shovelling a few inches of fresh snow from my driveway. I was thinking there has been snow and ice here for too long I barely remember when we didnt have snow and ice on our driveway! But I know in a few months it will all be gone. And in a few months after that, it will have been so hot for so long that I wont be able to remember this cold, icy time. Just like this recession. Its cold and icy right now and perhaps hard to remember how good it was. But there will come a time when it will have been good for a long time, and maybe the cold and icy wears off. (for the record, for me, I cant imagine the cold and icy wearing off anytime soon. It cut too close to the bone) The Sky Is Falling ⦠No Its Not! The sky is falling! How to Writea Resume For Colleges
How to Writea Resume For CollegesWith today's tight job market, it is often hard to get the ball rolling on how to write a resume for colleges. There are many people who struggle with this process as they try to present themselves and their qualifications in a way that will be noticed by the colleges they are applying to. While some of the tips may seem obvious, others may surprise you.First, if you are still in high school, do not be afraid to explain why you are choosing to attend a particular college. It does not have to be all about the money or grades. It should be about you. If you want to attend the school because it offers you a better experience, then be sure to mention that. Additionally, if you are taking AP classes in your senior year, you will have a great time learning about the world while making friends and having an exciting time, even if you do not receive a diploma.Of course, how to write a resume for colleges does not end at explaining what you will learn in your courses. In fact, you will want to find the schools that you would like to attend as early as possible. This means planning out which classes you will take in order to make the most of your college experience. Some schools require you to complete an application before you can even apply, so be sure to take this into consideration as well. When you are trying to figure out what programs you will choose, it is helpful to look at what programs the universities offer as well as what sort of education they provide. While there are plenty of colleges that offer the same sort of learning, some may have a broader scope in terms of the different areas of study that you may choose to pursue. Other schools may focus more on certain majors or subject areas that you may want to pursue. While it is always a good idea to know exactly what sort of program you want to attend, it is also a good idea to take a deeper look at the school's history and mission. Many schools are put together to give student s a great education, but others do so to attract students to their college or university. If you choose to attend one of these schools, you will be responsible for maintaining the reputation of the school as well as its students. Even though you may enjoy the education you receive, the best way to achieve this is to show how much they mean to you.One of the easiest ways to be noticed when it comes to how to write a resume for colleges is to find out where the schools in your area are located. This should not be too difficult since many local high schools and community colleges will have websites that you can check out. While the courses you will pursue in these schools will likely not be what you are looking for, you will be able to find out what is available in your area. Plus, you will know where to go when you need to fill out the application.Lastly, when you are searching for how to write a resume for colleges, it is a good idea to know what the requirements are. In order to be considered for any type of scholarship or grant, the schools that you apply to must provide a form that you must fill out in order to be considered. If you need to fill out this form, you will want to do it early on so that you can get the form filled out and return it in time. When you are searching for how to write a resume for colleges, it is important to understand that your application is going to be received by hundreds of colleges throughout the country and the world. Therefore, when you are looking for these forms, it is a good idea to know that you will have an opportunity to fill them out early.

How to Deal With Your Hacked Twitter Account - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
How to Deal With Your Hacked Twitter Account - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I should be writing about my recent trip to Cancun, and my safe return without the swine flu. But instead, Iâm writing about this stupid person who hacked my Twitter account and started following hundreds of spammers who started sending me hundreds of direct messages with hundreds of stupid links that Iâm afraid to click. So I canât tell you where those links go. What I can tell you is that the incident completely freaked me out. First, because I was only gone from social media and internet access for one week, and someone managed to violate my privacy in that time frame. Second, because I had to unfollow everyone to get rid of the spammers. And I was afraid to unfollow everyone because I know lots of people have auto-unfollows and I knew my followers count would drop. Fast. Wait. Itâs still dropping. Like hundreds of people every few hours. Numbers define something about your online presence? Then I realized I just donât care. Seriously. I know that people who would only follow me if I was following them are using me to boost their egos. And I know that cleaning out my Twitter following was unmanageable without starting from scratch. And I know that I need to get over the idea that numbers define something about my online presence. I feel a lot of things right now. Mad at the hacker. Annoyed with the source of the originally hacked account. Annoyed with myself for using the same password for both accounts. And then, relieved that I have an excuse to unfollow everyone and delete the noise in my Twitter account. And then, back to annoyed, because I will probably spend a lot of time adding people back. But. I can breathe again. I can hear myself think. And if that costs me a thousand followers, itâs probably still worth it. Your Twitter account is hacked? What to do Heres what to do if your Twitter account is hacked: Change the password. Identify the source, so it doesnt happen again. Unfollow the spammers, even if you have to unfollow everyone. Use this How-To to delete your DMs. Be patient. You cant fix your account in one day. If I owe you a follow, let me know. And be patient. Because its going to take me awhile to get back on track on Twitter. Author: Monica OâBrien writes career advice for young professionals at her blog, Twenty Set. Resume Objective Examples
Resume Objective ExamplesWriting a resume objective is a process that often gets overlooked, however it is critical to writing a good resume. A resume objective should capture your attention and drive your reader to action. This can be accomplished in many ways, but the most effective method is to keep it short and simple. You will find that a resume objective serves a variety of purposes, but the primary purpose is to introduce yourself and the applicant to the potential employer. It also provides insight into the applicant's interests and abilities that will help you determine how to best present him or her to an employer. The objective is a key component of a professional resume, which means you need to fully understand its purpose. There are many resume objective examples available on the Internet. Although many of them may seem similar, there are some important differences that you should keep in mind before you make your selection. It is not necessary to follow the example that i s provided, but it may be wise to base your selection on information that is available elsewhere. Here are a few tips for making the right choice. Most objective examples contain the name of the company and the position title. The main difference between a template and an objective is the format. If you can find a resume objective that contains just the name of the position and the company, this may be a good choice. However, if you want to increase your chances of being found, it is best to look for a resume objective that presents a more appealing picture of the applicant.Another difference between objective examples and a template is the type of information that is presented. Some examples may include a few lines about the applicant's background, while others will provide more detailed information about the candidate. If you are going to write a resume objective, it is important to understand the format in which it is written and the information that is included. To get a better id ea of the resume objective examples that are available on the Internet, you may want to use the keywords 'resume objective examples' in your search engine and go through the results. A search of the keyword will return many sites that will provide you with the required examples. The format of these examples is different as well. You may want to choose a sample that has already been written by another person or company. Many examples will contain the names of the candidate and the employer, but may be limited in the information provided about the candidate's past experience. These examples also do not give information about the length of the candidate's career. If the position requires the candidate to have been employed with the company for a long period of time, he or she will be better served by choosing a resume objective that contains the information required for the job.If you are not sure about how to use resume objective examples properly, you may want to look at samples that have already been used by someone else. It is possible that you can find a resume objective that is similar to one that has already been used by someone else. This is especially true when the employer has chosen to display his or her objectives on the cover page of the resume.

The New York Times Self-Published Best Book For Resume Writing Has No Business Being Published
The New York Times' Self-Published 'Best Book For Resume Writing' Has No Business Being PublishedYou might have read that the New York Times has announced its self-published 'Best Book For Resume Writing.' The publication was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek thing, of course. While it is true that the New York Times did publish an e-book on how to write resumes that was written by Michael Pietsch, the purpose was to give students and self-publishers a forum for sharing ideas on how to hire professionals for their resumes. These days, though, the kind of education that you get from going through one of these 'expert' seminars is much more difficult than the two hours that you would get from one of these seminars. While the New York Times' e-book was very educational in general, I think that it will end up being a liability for the job market in the near future. Because, when you're going to give your resume to someone who does not have any experience as a writer, what he or she sees on yo ur resume is the most important thing, in terms of whether you are able to land a job or not.It will also be a tremendous disadvantage if your resume is just not well-written, because people who do not have a background in writing and the ability to decipher and understand your resume will make a poor decision when it comes to hiring you. Your resume is not only your first chance at getting your name out there, but also at getting a job.In a way, the New York Times e-book would be better off if it had never been published. Because, what it actually did was to sell to people who have little or no experience with writing resumes. And, who, in turn, are not the best suited to help candidates with such a resume. The New York Times has now encouraged recent college graduates, who don't have any real experience with resumes, to put together their own, either through an e-book or, in some cases, through a consultation. The latter is even worse, because while they may have experience with re sumes, they won't have any idea about how to make them stand out, which is, after all, what this particular step is all about. There is also no reason to keep adding more education and help when the job market is already so tough. The job market is rough, but it is getting tougher. The types of jobs that are being advertised now are those that are looking for people with degrees, not people who have experience with resumes. If you want to get ahead in the job market, you need to start thinking about things like writing an impressive resume and knowing the current rules in the job market. It's not too late to do both, but if you are thinking about getting a free e-book on how to write resumes, then you should probably move on and look into the next opportunity. There are many resources available that can help you right now, and the Internet is one of them. Take advantage of these resources, get a free e-book, and use it to help you get ahead in the job market. You have a great degree, a nd you should be using it, instead of wasting it on a worthless course.

Monday Tip Positive Day - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Your mission this monday, is to make today positive day. Positive day is about focusing on the good stuff rather than the bad stuff, and while you will be doing exactly what you normally do, youll be doing it with a positive focus. Here are the ground rules for positive day: 1: See the good in everything If somebody brings up a co-worker, the boss, a client, an event from last week, a sports game or last nights movie youre only allowed to talk about what you liked about it. The good stuff only. If you have nothing good to say, say nothing. Or change the subject to a positive topic. 2: Agree first If someone comes to you with a suggestion, and idea or a new thought, you are, of cours, allowed to disagree, but you must first say what you like about the idea and what you agree with. 3: No complaining Sorry, but today you cant complain. Remember, its only for a day, so tomorrow you can complain to your hearts content, but not today. Youre absolutely allowed to do something about any problems you see. Ready to get your online biz out of your head and onto the web Heres what you dont know. - When I Grow Up
Ready to get your online biz out of your head and onto the web Heres what you dont know. - When I Grow Up Laura Simms and I have a lot of similarities. We both left our careers as performers seeking more freedom, autonomy, and fulfillment in our work, and transitioned into being the coaches we needed at the time. We both proudly bootstrapped our businesses in the beginning and are now thriving business owners who have sold traditionally published books, online courses, one-on-one coaching packages, in-person events, and more. We have a combined 12 years of experience, having personally worked with hundreds of people through their career transitions into entrepreneurship. The main difference? I work specifically with creatives who want to be entrepreneurs, and she works with those who want to find a meaningful career around their purpose. My branding and energy is more Punky Brewster, and hers, J.Crew. Weve known each other for about 5 years now (she actually emailed me when she was juuuuuust starting out to ask some informational questions about my biz the cutest!) and have been talking about joining forces on an offer for almost as long. A few months ago, though, it came to us: we can, collectively, help aspiring or brand new business owners get clear on their business idea and help them launch it into the world. In 90 days. With a personalized action plan + timeline. Its funny, because Ive always been resistant to Tell Others What To Do For Their Career. That was confirmed for me when I went to a wedding that was catered by a pizza fire truck. I looked at it and went, If someone can buy a firetruck and install a pizza oven, beer tap and photo booth inside and drive it around to different events, than anything is possible and nobody can tell anyone what to do when they grow up. But after working with hundreds of women on their career transitions, Ive shifted my thoughts and beliefs slightly. I still wont be telling anyone what she should be doing as her end-all, be-all career but I often know where she needs to start. When someone decides to work with me, she fills out pages of info all about her goals and challenges around her dream career. I ask a lot of questions, and I get the whole story: whats worked about her prior jobs (and what hasnt), her inkling to whats next, her proudest achievement, the things she knows she can get paid to teach or share, etc. By the time Im done reading, I usually know the action that needs to be taken thatll allow her to get out of her head and into her hands, as a former client put it. Usually, The Answer is buried in all those words, expressed in an inkling of whats next or an idea thats been nagging at them for weeks, months, or even years. But within that is lots of stuck-ness. My client usually thinks she has to talk everything out before taking action. My client usually thinks she has to feel 110% certain that shell want to do this business forever before she decides to take the tiniest little baby step. My client usually thinks she has to do All The Things the gurus say to do (get a mailing list of 1K people, be active on every social media platform, run Facebook ads, learn how to make passive income, and on and on) before she can put a basic offer out into the world or let people know what shes doing. What my client doesnt know is that the only thing the most important thing! she needs to do to build a business she loves is take action. Start experimenting. Get some experience. Pick something to work on and then assess it, tweak it, cut it or build on it from there. Then rinse and repeat. Over and over and over again. (Im still rinsing and repeating 8 years later) Laura and I are of the same mind on this, which is why we decided to put together 90 Day Business Launch: Your Custom Plan to Get Your Online Business Out of Your Head and Onto the Web. Youll give us your idea(s), goals and challenges via a juicy intake form, just like I give my private clients. By the end of the July, well give you a personalized Launch Plan, based on what Laura and I see around your new business idea. If you follow what we customize for you, youll have your business out into the world along with your mission, message, money-making offer(s), marketing plan and milestones to hit by the end of October. Weve decided to make this a beta offer, taking our own advice and testing our idea as opposed to having it live in our heads or doing A SUPER BIG LAUNCH WHERE WE TELL EVERYONE OMG. That means theres only 10 spots available, the price is the lowest itll ever be, and we have no guarantees that well ever do this again. Curious? Get more info ( fill out a no-obligation application) right here. Applications will be open through Friday or whenever our 10 spots are sold whatever comes first. Time to stop spinning your wheels and hypothetically answering your business questions. Time to get get you online business out of your head and onto the web. Let us help you.
